Employers like to see graduating
students whose resumes reflect internships, summer work, or coop
experience. Students also seek these
experiences as a way to explore and build experience in the field. While there are many productive and
successful programs in place, there are also many situations where students are
disappointed in the experience and disillusioned with the concept.
This meeting will focus on detailed
examination of the student work experience.
For this timely topic, we offer two speakers with exceptional depth of
knowledge in this area. The presenters
will offer a wealth of insights from the student perspective and will
illuminate key points that will help to insure that student work programs are optimally
beneficial for both the student and the employer.
Mary Scott, President of Scott
Resource Group, will present on her recent research on students' perceived
experiences in intern assignments, versus what their expectations were. Mary has a long involvement in conducting
research into student employment and college recruiting issues. Mary has prior experience as a corporate
Staffing director and academic experience in college admissions. She is a frequent presenter at the National
Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE).
Mary presented to AOEP last year and received rave reviews for content
and presentation.
Scott Weighart, Senior Cooperative
Education Coordinator at Northeastern University, has in-depth experience in
working with both students and employers to build successful cooperative
education experiences. Scott is the
author of numerous guides that are used on campuses and is a sought after
presenter on many topics pertaining to student employment. Scott recently was
recognized by Northeastern with an award that acknowledges his efforts in
cooperative education. Scott will
present on generational influences on the work experiences and recommendations
for making the experience the best it can be for students and employers.
This is a must attend session for
anyone who is currently involved in coop, intern, or summer employment
programs, or who is considering starting one.
With two strong presenters on student expectations, we are sure that we
will exceed your expectations for a worthwhile and thought provoking session.
